This piece was inspired by my trip to a recent traditional village in Malacca that is facing demolition. The village is in Kampung Hailam, off the coastal road north of historic city Malacca. This was one of the houses built in the 1970s, I believe, which is reminiscent of many such houses in traditional villages that are now history. Living in such houses is an experience of few equals like waking up to the chirp of bird in the trees around one's home and listening to the patter of raindrops. Nights are also cooler here than in concrete homes.
